Jamdani Panjabi for Men: Price, Regular vs Premium, Sizes, and Ordering from Bangladesh
A Jamdani panjabi is the men's answer to the Jamdani saree: the same handloom cloth from around Dhaka, cut into the long shirt Bengali men wear for Eid, weddings and Friday prayers. If you are ordering one from abroad for a wedding, or buying your first for Eid, this guide covers what it costs, how the regular and premium ones differ, how sizing works, and how to order from Bangladesh.
What you are buying
The cloth is woven on a handloom with the motifs added thread by thread during weaving, not printed on afterwards. Turn the panjabi inside out and you will see the motif on the reverse with the short cut ends of the extra thread; a printed "Jamdani" panjabi has a plain back. The design is usually a band of motifs down the front placket and across the chest, with smaller butis scattered over the body. Colours run from black, navy and maroon for weddings to purple, teal, sea green and golden sand for Eid and daytime events.
Price in 2026: regular vs premium
At our shop a Jamdani panjabi is one of two things:
- Regular, BDT 2,000. Tussar-and-cotton mixed handloom (a few colours in cotton). Ready stock in sizes 38 to 48; sizes 46 and 48 cost BDT 300 more. Ships as soon as the order is confirmed.
- Premium, BDT 3,450 (one heavily worked design is BDT 3,950). Premium cotton handloom, finer thread. Not kept ready-made: after you order, our team calls for your measurements and the cloth is cut to them.
For a rough conversion at the time of writing, BDT 2,000 is about USD 16 to 17 and BDT 3,450 about USD 28 to 29; INR roughly 1,400 and 2,400. Check the day's rate before you order.
Matching sets cost less than buying separately: a regular couple set (panjabi plus kamiz) is BDT 3,800 and a premium one starts at BDT 6,900. See the couple sets and family sets.
Sizing: the chart, in inches
Sizes are named by length. Length is measured from the collar down; chest is the body measurement with a little ease already included.
- 38 (S): length 38, chest 42
- 40 (M): length 40, chest 44
- 42 (L): length 42, chest 46
- 44 (XL): length 44, chest 48
- 46 (XXL): length 46, chest 50
- 48 (XXXL): length 48, chest 52
Two practical tips. Measure a panjabi or kurta you already own and like, flat on a bed, rather than your body. And if you are between sizes, tell us: our team confirms the size by phone before anything ships. For the premium panjabi it does not matter, because it is cut to your own numbers after the call. Every product page has a size guide with these figures: regular and premium Jamdani panjabi.
The koti: the waistcoat that goes over it
For weddings, the groom and the groom's side often wear a Jamdani koti, a sleeveless waistcoat, over a plain or Jamdani panjabi. Ours are handwoven Jamdani with five buttons, made to measure in sizes 34 to 48, at BDT 5,000 and BDT 9,500 depending on the work, with a 30 percent advance. The koti is the piece that photographs best on the stage, and a plain white or cream panjabi under a worked koti is a classic wedding look. See the Jamdani koti collection.
Ordering from Bangladesh
- Inside Bangladesh: regular panjabis need no advance in Dhaka (cash on delivery) and only the BDT 150 delivery charge in advance outside Dhaka; premium panjabis take a BDT 1,000 advance per piece because the cloth is cut to your measurements. Delivery is up to 5 working days in Dhaka and up to 10 working days elsewhere, plus the making time for premium. Pay the full amount up front and delivery is free.
- From abroad: we ship internationally by courier. Send us the product link, your size or measurements and your country on [WhatsApp](https://wa.me/8801919778974) and we will quote the shipping cost and time before you pay. For a wedding, order well ahead: a premium panjabi or koti has to be made first and then travel, and we will give you a realistic date when we quote. Regular panjabis in stock ship within days.
- Returns: a regular panjabi can be exchanged within 3 days of delivery, unused, if the size is wrong and the size you need is in stock. Premium panjabis and kotis are cut to your measurements, so there is no size return; check the piece in front of the delivery man, and a weaving fault or a wrong item is replaced at our cost.
Care
Wash by hand in a bucket of cold water with a little mild shampoo, dip two or three times, rinse, and dry in the shade. No washing machine, no wringing, no scrubbing; wringing loosens the handwoven threads. Dry cleaning is fine. Store on a hanger or folded in cotton. The full guide: care.
Three questions we get from abroad
- Is a BDT 2,000 Jamdani panjabi really handwoven? Yes. The regular cloth is a heavier handloom with less dense work, which is what keeps the price down; it is not printed. The difference from premium is in the thread and the fit, not in whether a loom was involved.
- Can I match the panjabi to a saree? Often, yes. Many panjabi colours have a saree or kamiz in the same family, and the couple sets are built that way. Tell us the saree link and we will suggest the closest panjabi.
- Do you have children's sizes? Children's panjabis come as part of the family sets; message us with the child's age and height and we will tell you what is possible.
